PARKER COUNTY, Texas — A North Texas firefighter lost his wife and two children after the family’s Parker County home caught fire Monday night, officials said.

Parker County firefighters responded to the fire shortly before 10 p.m. on Lake County Drive near Weatherford, the Emergency Services District 6 fire department said in a news release. Initial reports indicated that three people were unaccounted for in a home that was fully engulfed in flames, officials said.

Firefighters worked to control the blaze and gain access to the interior of the home, according to the release. Crews found two people initially and a third person shortly after. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

“While he was serving our community, his wife and two children tragically lost their lives in the fire. He also lost his home and belongings,” officials with the Palo Pinto County Emergency Services District 1 said in a social media post. “Our hearts are with him as he faces an unimaginable loss.”

The agency has asked community members to respect the privacy of the first responder as he navigates this loss. “We ask our community to keep our first responder, his family, his friends and his fellow first responders in your thoughts and prayers,” the post read.

Mutual aid assistance was requested from Cresson Volunteer Fire Department and North Hood County Volunteer Fire Department, according to the Parker County ESD release.

The Parker County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and the origin of the fire, the release stated.

“Parker County Emergency Service District 6 extends its deepest condolences to the victims’ family and loved ones during this extremely difficult time,” officials said in the release. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with them as they cope with this tragic loss.”

The victims will be publicly identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
