Sakurajima produced its largest eruption in 6 months on May 8th 2026, and this generated its first pyroclastic flow in more than 5 years. Today's video briefly discusses that explosion, which formed when a plug at one of its 3 craters on its southern cone formed. This video had been planned to be published a week ago, but multiple volcano news stories elsewhere made be keep delaying it. Tired of crashing it, I decided to publish it today.
