A wide ranging tsunami was generated earlier today by the strongest earthquake to strike the Philippines in 50 years. Registering in as a magnitude 7.8, this earthquake caused severe damage in some areas, causing some buildings to completely collapse. Yet, while this was a truly large earthquake, it was not a megathrust event. Instead, it had a different origin which today's video will explain.
