PITTSBURGH — A Shaler Township fire police officer died after suffering a medical emergency while working at a community event on Aug. 9.

The Shaler Villa Volunteer Fire Company said George Mullins Jr., a fire police officer with the Shaler Township Fire Police, suffered a medical emergency while working at a Community Car Cruise at Shaler Area Elementary School.

A Shaler Hampton EMS crew at the event provided immediate medical care before Mullins was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Mullins served with Shaler Villa for more than 30 years.

“We ask you to keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” the department said.
