The National Volunteer Fire Council is recognizing volunteer firefighters, EMS providers, junior members and junior programs for outstanding service

November 20, 2025 11:21 AM •

WASHINGTON — The National Volunteer Fire Council has opened nominations for its annual awards recognizing volunteer firefighters, junior members and leaders in responder health and wellness.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. EST on January 16.

Recipients of the Lifetime Achievement, Health and Wellness Leadership, and Junior Firefighter of the Year awards will be recognized during an awards celebration on May 16, 2026, in Alexandria, Virginia, held in conjunction with the NVFC’s spring conference. The Junior Firefighter Program of the Year Award will be presented locally so all junior members can participate.

The William J. Darley Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by Darley, honors a volunteer firefighter with at least 20 years of service who has made major contributions or significant achievements at the local, state and/or national level.

The Chief James P. Seavey Sr. Health and Wellness Leadership Award, co-sponsored by VFIS and Ward Diesel Filter Systems, recognizes an active volunteer firefighter, EMS provider, or rescue worker who has led efforts to create or promote responder health and wellness programs.

The NVFC Junior Firefighter of the Year Award, sponsored by California Casualty, highlights a junior firefighter who has gone above and beyond in service to their department.

The NVFC Junior Firefighter Program of the Year Award, also sponsored by California Casualty, honors a junior firefighter program or Explorer Post that has demonstrated strong community impact, innovation and creativity.
