A rapid intervention crew rescued two Fort Worth firefighters after wind-driven flames and intense heat overtook crews operating on the second floor of a burning home

FORT WORTH, Texas — Two firefighters were hospitalized for burn injuries Monday night after battling a blaze in south Fort Worth, officials said.

Fire crews were called to a home in the 7600 block of Crowley Road about 10:40 p.m. Flames were already coming from the second story of the house when they arrived less than five minutes later, according to a Fort Worth Fire Department news release.

Firefighters on the second floor were met by a sudden burst of heat and flames, fueled by wind gusts of up to 25 miles per hour, the release states. A mayday was called, followed by a second alarm.

A fire crew with special training in rescuing firefighters from burning buildings was nearby and responded to the scene, officials told Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV . They were able to get the injured firefighters out in less than 10 minutes.

Three adults were displaced by the fire, according to the release. The American Red Cross will assist them with their immediate needs.

The injured firefighters were transported to local hospitals in stable condition, officials said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

In a separate incident, multiple families were displaced and one firefighter was being treated for smoke inhalation during a three-alarm apartment fire in west Fort Worth early Tuesday morning.
