The southern Philippines was rocked by a powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake that struck in the region of Mindanao on Friday, October 10, 2025 The Philippine seismology agency issued a tsunami warning, saying hazardous tsunami waves were possible for coasts located within 300 kilometers (186 miles) of the earthquake’s epicentre. Hours later the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the tsunami threat had passed. Evacuation orders were issued in affected areas, with local schools also suspending classes for the day. Damage to infrastructure, including cracks in the structure of the Magsaysay Bridge in Butuan city were reported.
