OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — A Blackman Fire Department engine responding to a brush fire in northern Okaloosa County crashed on Nov. 28, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Firefighters were en route to a fire on Creston Barrow Road when Engine 70 — a 2010 Kenworth pumper-tanker carrying 1,500 gallons of water — was involved in a motor vehicle crash, WEAR reported.

Firefighters in units traveling behind Engine 70, along with a registered nurse driving in the oncoming lane, witnessed the crash, according to the highway patrol. They immediately began treating the injured firefighter, who was thrown about 50 feet from where Engine 70 came to rest in the roadway.

The Florida Highway Patrol and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are assisting with the investigation.
