CLEARWATER, Fla. — Laramie County Fire Authority Fire Chief Jason Caughey received the John M. Buckman III Leadership Award at the IAFC’s Symposium in the Sun event on Thursday.

Sponsored by Provident Insurance and the IAFC Volunteer & Combination Officers Section (VCOS), the award recognizes a chief officer of a volunteer or combination fire department who stands out on the local or regional level as a true professional who has demonstrated leadership, integrity and outstanding values within the fire service.

“Chief Buckman is an icon in the fire service, so to receive an award in his honor is truly humbling,” Caughey shared. “It’s a reflection of the entire LCFA leadership team and membership.”

Chief Caughey has been fire chief of the LCFA in Cheyenne, Wyoming, for 14 years. LCFA is a combination fire department with 100 members, 9 full-time members, 12 resident firefighters and 100 volunteer members protecting 25,000 citizens in Laramie County. Through eight strategically placed stations, the district covers and protects 1,150 square miles, ranging from suburban development to rural ranch land.

Caughey has been in the fire service for more than 20 years, serving in many capacities, including state trainer, volunteer firefighter, fire captain and volunteer fire chief. He also serves as a fire advisor for FireRescue1. Caughey is known for his commitment to service of both the community and members of LCFA through progressive leadership that focuses on service, ownership and unity.
